PRP Therapy For Low Ovarian Reserve (POF)/ Azoospermia
PRP injections are effective and safe to improve markers of low ovarian reserve prior to ART, although further evidence is required to evaluate the impact of PRP on Pregnancy Out Comes.
PRP therapy is recommended in Women with premature ovarian failure (POF), Infertile Women >35 years And Women with low Ovarian Reserve.
Treatment with PRP is named Ovarian Rejuvenation where PRP is injected into the ovary by ultrasound guidance like ovum retrieval in IVF.

Men who do not have sperm in their semen have a condition called azoospermia. It happens to about 1% of all men and 15% of infertile men. Initially it was thought that this condition cannot be treated biologically but now Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and stem cells therapy has given hope to such patients.
In what conditions PRP therapy is normally given?
- There are very few spermatozoa in the semen (oligozoospermia <10 million / ml)
- Hormone therapy did not give results
- Hormone therapy cannot be given to patient.
Usually in such cases, the chances for pregnancy are very small so in order to improve the chances a novel and innovative approach of PRP therapy is done to rejuvenate the testes and produce functional sperms.
In order to do the procedure, an expert examine the patient physically, physiologically and biochemically along with history. If the patient meet the criteria for PRP, therapy is done. For this, patient own blood is drawn and later it is centrifuged and aspirated to collect PRP. In this procedure, the concentrations of platelet and growth factors is increased many folds to use them for therapeutic purpose. Finally PRP is injected into testes under ultrasound guidance.
PRP is rich in different types of growth factors so when it is injected into the testicles, it activate spermatogenesis (sperm production). The sperm production process started as cell healing and regeneration process is activated and hence good quality sperms are produced, which can start pregnancy in the partner.
The PRP therapy procedure is yet in the experimental phase and there is need of more investigation about safety and effectiveness of the procedure. According to recently published date it succeeds in more than 50% of cases. The reproductive biologists say it as a breakthrough in reproductive technologies as it has given hope to many hopeless patients by giving them chance to be biological father by restoration of spermatogenesis process. The procedure is safe and efficient but you should visit a trained expert to get better results. After its success in developed countries, the procedure is available in Pakistan. If you are an azoospermia patient, do not wait, give a try to be a biological father.
