Frequently Asked Questions
IVF is a fertility treatment which helps in conception of a child. It is a complex procedure in which mature eggs are taken from ovaries using a small needle and then fertilized with sperms in lab. After fertilization, one or more embryos (fertilized egg) are allowed to grow in a protected environment for some days and then transferred to uterus.
Embryos are grown in Laboratory for about 5 days (Blastocyst stage) and then transferred to Women’s Embryo. This procedure of implanting embryo into the uterus is known as “embryo transfer”.
IUI stands for in intrauterine insemination which is a fertility treatment .It works by placing sperm inside a woman’s uterus during the time when she is ovulating to facilitate fertilization This treatment facilitate the sperm by giving it a head start and also cuts the distance sperm has to travel which assists in making it easier to fertilize women’s egg. It’s also called alternative insemination, donor insemination or artificial insemination.
The most common reasons for IUI are decreased sperm mobility or low sperm count. This fertility treatment is also used for following conditions as well:
- ejaculatory disorder
- Cervical mucus hostility
- Unexplained infertility (no explanation for why they can’t conceive)
- scar tissue inside the cervix and uterus
The steps involved in PGD cycle is as following:
- Stimulation of the ovaries
- Collection of eggs from the ovaries
- Insemination/injection of sperm
- Fertilization
- Embryo biopsy
- Embryo Testing
- Embryo Transfer
- Pregnancy Test
PGD is a genetic profiling of embryos or sometimes even of oocytes prior to fertilization
